Choosing a Contractor

Whether you are building a new home or remodeling your current one, you will need a contractor. While small projects can be done without a contractor, any projects that will require work on electrical, plumbing, or anything structural should have a contractor overseeing it. From the outside, all contractors usually look alike, so how do you find the good ones?

The first thing is don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. Remember, they work for you. If you feel that you are getting inadequate answers, look somewhere else. It is a good idea to ask three or more contractors for bids on the project. Usually the highest and lowest bids are not the ones you want to go with.

Check to be sure that they have insurance and are licensed to do the work you need. Then you will want to make sure that they have done projects like yours before. Unless they come highly recommended, you probably don’t want to be their first project of any type. Finally, ask for referrals. Business contacts, people who they have worked for, etc. Make sure they have left behind a trail of happy customers.

Taking these steps will make it more likely that you will be happy with their results.
